Many people like me cannot remember the last
time they cleaned their belly button.
The belly button (a scar tissue left over
from the umbilical cord that joined you to your mother's placenta) is among the
hardest parts of the body to clean. The reason is not far-fetched the belly
button is quite deep and the muck sticks to the soft skin, it becomes almost
impossible for a person to clean this area.
From the hygiene point of view, your navel
should be cleaned just like all the other parts of the body; otherwise, the
area can develop unpleasant smells and infections, often paired with red,
itchy, and scabby skin.
I have heard some people say smelly button
belly turn them off when romancing or making love with their partners.
Dermatologists say omphaloiths (naval stones)
can grow to fill up the
entire belly button and become infected, inflamed, and ulcerated. This infection
occurs in people who are neglectful
about cleaning, or are unable to clean regularly Navel stones can are also known as umboilths and are masses
made up of sebum and keratin deposition that oxidises into a solid, black
accretion.
Before I give you tips on how to clean
your navel, I think it is important we know why belly button smells.
It could be a sign of:
A
simple build-up of sweat and belly button dirt
A fungal infection or yeast infection of the
belly button
A
bacterial infection of the belly button
A
wound or bruise around or within the belly button
How
to Clean Belly Button
1.
Place two
drops of cleaning solution preferably saltwater (methylated spirit is alternative).
2.
Leave
the solution on the area for about 5 minutes to sterilize it.
3.
Dip one
head of the cotton bud into your navel and gently massage it.
4.
Discard
old swabs and repeat the process if your navel is still dirty. This process should
not take you more than five minutes. When you're done, take a clean swab and
gently clean out any remaining cleaning solution still present in the navel. You
may feel a little discomfort. While doing this be careful not to poke inside
the navel too hard to avoid injuring yourself.
5.
Rinse
it off immediately and allow to dry.
